AUTOMATIC SWIMMING POOL CLEANERS FAQ`s

Automatic Swimming Pool Cleaners faq`s

How do they work?

There are three methods common to the market. Pressure, vacuum and electrically operated.

The pressure operated models require a booster pump which will provide a high pressure water supply through a dedicated line to the pool side. In turn this drives the cleaner around the pool and a venturi pushes dirt and debris in to a collector bag, whilst a sweeping hose pushes silt and sand in to the pools main drain.

Vacuum cleaners connect to the pools skimmer or vac point and the water being drawn by the filter pump is passed through a turbine or diaphragm which enables the cleaner to propel itself around the pool and vacuum up the dirt and debris, which is then deposited in to the pools main filter.

Electrically operated units are essentially, glorified submersible pumps. Plugged in to a suitable mains outlet the integral pump drives the unit around the pool whilst drawing large volumes of water through its own integral filter. Once cleaning is complete you simply then empty the filter.

How much do they cost?

There are numerous models on the market, but generally prices will range from £200 to £2000 dependent on size of pool and the type and specification of the cleaner.

Are they easy to install?

In most cases, very much so. Most units can be easily installed by the pool owner all be it some models, especially the pressure type, will require fitting by your pool professional.
